Fix export and sync problems
What to do when the connection drops or an export fails.
Updated October 29, 2026
Connection status
The Accounting page shows one of:
- Connected: all good.
- Not responding: usually QuickBooks Desktop is closed. Open it with your company file and click Sync now.
- Connection error: the connection needs to be redone. Go to Settings → Accounting, remove the connection, and connect again.
An export failed
Check the Needs attention list on the Accounting page. Common causes:
- No default expense account. See Choose a default expense account.
- Vendor not matched. Match it under Accounting → Matching → Vendors.
- Something new in QuickBooks (an account, vendor, or item) that CostCrunch hasn't seen yet. Click Sync now, then retry.
Fix the cause, then export the invoice again from Documents.
Disconnect
Go to Settings → Accounting → Connection, click Remove connection, then Confirm removal. Bills already in QuickBooks aren't touched.
